Liposuction in Annandale, VA
Liposuction helps patients with unwanted areas of fat accumulation beneath the skin that are not responsive to diet or exercise. Liposuction is a contouring procedure, not a substitute for weight loss. It can be a beneficial addition to a combined weight loss and exercise program.
Liposuction cannot change underlying dimensions, but it can improve contour significantly when subcutaneous fat is the problem. The best liposuction candidates are those who are at or close to their ideal body weight and size, yet still have persistent areas of unwanted fat accumulation.
The most common areas that benefit from liposuction are the abdomen, hips and thighs, although other areas can be treated such as the arms and neck. If you feel that more than one area needs to be corrected, liposuction may be combined with other procedures, such as Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck), to maximize your overall benefits. Before & After
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction is a safe procedure when appropriate guidelines are followed. We always have an anesthesiologist with you during liposuction to ensure that you are comfortable and safe. It is usually performed on an out-patient basis, so we limit the amount of fat removed during any one procedure.
During liposuction, a small metal tube called a cannula is connected to a suction machine. We insert the cannula through a small incision into the area of the body adjacent to the unwanted fat. The fat is then aspirated or “removed.” Because the incisions and the cannula are small, the resulting scars are usually inconspicuous. Infiltration of physiological saline solutions allows easier removal of the fatty tissue, less blood loss and added post-operative comfort.
ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR LIPOSUCTION
Suction-assisted lipectomy is a leading-edge technique that is ideal for removing localized collections of excess fatty tissue. Typical areas for suction-assisted lipectomy include the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, as well as the facial and neck areas. Suction-assisted lipectomy has increased rapidly in popularity because of its minimal scarring, excellent results and high degree of safety. Tumescent, Micro-aire, ultrasound and laser-assisted techniques are all options your plastic surgeon may discuss with you.
RECOVERY FOLLOWING LIPOSUCTION
After liposuction, you will be placed in an elastic support garment, similar to a girdle, while you are still asleep. This garment will cover and compress the treated areas to limit fluid accumulation and provide gentle, balanced pressure, assuring a smooth final contour. You will wear this garment continuously for two to four weeks, except when bathing.
Some patients experience bruising and swelling after liposuction. Others experience “skin rippling.” These conditions will improve considerably in the first three weeks, but the final result can take up to three months to be fully visible. You will most likely be able to resume normal activities, including walking and driving, in five to seven days. You should postpone strenuous exercise for three weeks.*Cost estimates are all-inclusive ballpark figures. Actual procedures to be performed and costs vary depending on individual patient needs. Our Patient Coordinator will provide a fee quote after your consultation with the physician.
