Otoplasty

Ear pinning, “ear tuck,” or otoplasty is the surgical procedure for correcting ears that protrude. Otoplasty changes the shape of underlying ear cartilage by removing portions of it or by forming normal folds of the ear where they are absent. Both adults and children from Washington, DC; Chevy Chase and Bethesda, MD; Arlington and Fairfax, VA; and surrounding areas benefit from improved confidence and an enhanced appearance with otoplasty at Center for Plastic Surgery.

Best Timing for Ear Pinning or Otoplasty

As some children grow, their ears protrude noticeably further than those of their peers. Since ninety percent of ear growth is completed by age three, the need for otoplasty may be assessed any time after this point. Most commonly, corrective surgery is performed at age five or six, although it can be performed into adulthood.

How Much Does Otoplasty Cost in the Washington, DC, Metro Area?

What to Expect With Otoplasty in Washinton, DC

After surgery, a turban-type head dressing will remain in place for three to five days. When that dressing is removed, a light dressing will be placed over the ears. (Many children wear a ski-type headband during this phase.) Ears will be wrapped at night for three weeks after surgery. At that time, healing will be largely completed. Most bruising and swelling will resolve in ten to fourteen days. Normal exercise can be resumed about two weeks after surgery, but contact athletics should be postponed for six weeks. There are rare instances of mild recurrence of the protruding ear, which can be easily corrected under local anesthesia.

CPS has been helping Washington, DC with Ear Pinning since 1986 and we’d be happy for you to come in for a free consult.
