Otoplasty for Men

For men in Washington, DC; Chevy Chase and Bethesda, MD; Arlington and Fairfax, VA; and surrounding areas with prominent or protruding ears, it’s easy for other strong features to be overshadowed. Otoplasty, commonly known as ear pinning or an “ear tuck,” is a procedure used for correcting this condition and bringing balance to your overall appearance. By removing portions of the underlying ear cartilage or forming normal ear folds where they are absent, our plastic surgeons are able to make ears more proportionate to your head and facial structure.

When to Consider Male Ear Pinning

For some children, protruding ears can become a great source of embarrassment. By the age of three, 90% of ear growth is completed and the need for ear pinning may be assessed at any point after this. While corrective ear surgery is commonly performed during childhood, many adults benefit from this procedure as well. If you are uncomfortable or self-conscious about the appearance of your ears, the first step is consulting with a plastic surgeon experienced with otoplasty.

How Much Does Male Otoplasty Cost in the Washington, DC, Metro Area?

The cost for otoplasty (ear pinning) ranges from $6,125 to $7,000, depending on whether one or both ears are operated on and the complexity of the procedure. We will provide you with a personalized cost estimate after your consultation with one of our providers.

What to Expect from Ear Pinning Surgery

Depending on the age of the patient and level of correction required, ear pinning may be performed either under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, administered by one of our board certified anesthesiologists. An incision will typically be made in the back of the ear, allowing your surgeon to shape the cartilage and adjust size.

Ear pinning is an outpatient procedure and most patients recover quickly. There will be some swelling that will cause the ears to look larger temporarily. When you resume normal activity or return to work will depend on your comfort level with the appearance of your ears while your body is healing. The resulting scar is faint, inconspicuously located, and generally fades over time.
