DIEP Flap Case #3138
Description:
These before-and-after photographs illustrate the results of breast reconstruction using the DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) flap technique. Prior to surgery, the patient presented following mastectomy with loss of breast volume and contour. After reconstruction, the images demonstrate restored breast shape and symmetry using the patient’s own abdominal tissue, while preserving abdominal muscle function.
The postoperative views highlight a natural breast contour, improved balance with the opposite breast, and a smoother chest wall profile. The abdominal donor site shows a refined, flatter contour consistent with a tummy-tuck–like result. Individual outcomes vary, but these images reflect the goal of DIEP flap reconstruction: creating a soft, natural-looking breast while minimizing impact to core strength and overall function.
