PRP Therapy in Washington, D.C.
The human body has an amazing ability to heal, thanks in large part to tiny cells in our blood called platelets. Packed with growth factors, platelets are first responders for tissue repair, triggering cell regeneration and speeding collagen production to give our tissues new life.
Now, we can harness the power of platelets to help give new life to aging skin. It’s called PRP therapy, and we are excited to offer this non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment here at Center for Plastic Surgery.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Our blood has many different components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. All are necessary for helping our bodies function, but platelets and plasma are especially good for tissue regeneration, containing proteins and growth factors that help cells renew and repair themselves.
PRP therapy separates out the red and white blood cells from a small blood sample, leaving behind plasma with a very high concentration of platelets. This platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then infused into the skin to help stimulate collagen production and repair age-related skin damage.
How Can PRP Therapy Rejuvenate My Look?
When used as part of a microneedling treatment, PRP can help boost the effects to help you get smoother, healthier and more youthful-looking skin in just a few short weeks. By aiding in skin regeneration, PRP can help to:
- Reduce fine lines & wrinkles
- Improve skin texture & tone
- Reduce acne scars
- Rejuvenate aging hands
- Boost effects of microneedling, dermal fillers & other skin care treatments for faster onset of results
What to Expect with PRP Therapy in Washington, D.C.
Our experienced staff performs PRP therapy as part of microneedling treatments at our Chevy Chase and Annandale offices. After discussing your concerns and goals, we will draw a small sample of blood from your arm. This blood is then transferred to a special tube and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the different components of blood.
The platelet-rich plasma is then transferred into our special Collagen P.I.N. microneedling device, where it is infused into the skin on the face, hands, or neck wherever you wish to see smoother, more youthful skin.
Treatment time varies, but PRP therapy typically adds no more than 30 minutes to the average microneedling treatment. No downtime is necessary, and because your own blood is used, there is no risk for allergic reaction or transmission.
